Hospitality Professionals Need to Seize the Opportunity

Hospitality Professionals Need to Seize the OpportunityThis message was inspired by an article shared in the PCMA Convene Magazine addressing the current state of our industry for hospitality professionals. “If we’ve been waiting for the COVID-19 crisis to pass to go back to business as usual, we’ve missed a rare opportunity to see our lives and our work in a new light.”

Warren Buffet puts it a different way; “only when the tide goes out, do we discover who’s been swimming naked.” Well, the tide has gone out and the fragility of our industry has come to light.

This is a wake-up call for all of us and how we respond is critical. We need to be the ones within our industry that embraces this rare opportunity and implements a new strategy so we will rise again quickly!

The question we keep hearing is…how? Below are six (6) thoughts on what we can be focusing on to ensure success both now and in the future.

  1. It has been said many ways, but I like the Jim Rohn version: “when the why is important enough, the how becomes easy.” This is the time to refocus on your passion – why you are doing what you do!
  2. Identify your current challenge (it is not the same for everyone) due to the pandemic, economic crises, and social and political unrest.
    1. Personally – what has changed in your personal life?
    2. Professionally – how has your business or career been impacted?
  3. Focus on what you can control, your attitude. It will not be easy, but we need to:
    1. Stay positive
    2. Think differently – what are we doing that is different than our competitors
  4. Uncover who can guide you on the way to overcoming the current challenge.
    1. Mentors
    2. A life or business coach (or both)
  5. Make sure that you have a plan and a call to action
    1. Specific actions you need to take to achieve your objective
    2. Due dates on when you will get them done
    3. Go public with what you are working on
  6. Surround yourselves with a positive support group (professional peers along with family and friends). It is always important, but now more than ever, surround yourself with the people that will lift you up and not bring you down.

If you want to see your life and work in a new light and ensure success as we emerge from this challenging time, join a sales leader that has his team seizing the opportunities before them. We are not waiting for this to be over; we are using this as our time to enhance our skills, adding to our portfolio of products and services available, building our network and helping others as we will get through this together.
