Is It Possible To Move From Employee To Entrepreneur In The Hospitality Industry?

I started my Hospitality Lifestyles blog to share that it is possible to make the move from employee to entrepreneur and achieve success in the hospitality industry (if I can do it…you can do it). My hope is that our posts will help inspire you, create ideas and promote interactive conversations as you advance your career in the exciting and ever-changing hospitality industry. Our goal is to share useful content in the following areas:

Throughout the posts, you will learn from real-life examples of those that made the choice, some by default, to pursue a career in the hospitality industry.

My first exposure to the hospitality industry came when I was 10 years old staying with cousins who owned a hotel in Daytona Beach, Florida. My relatives let me roam the hotel freely and tag along with their staff during that week. Instantly, I became interested in the hotel side of our industry.

Later, I was fortunate enough to spend some time with a cousin who was working as a sales manager in a convention hotel in Chicago, IL. These two experiences were my early and main influencers giving me the desire to pursue hospitality as a career. However, as I need to be completely honest with you, I was also influenced by a TV show that was airing in the 80’s called “Hotel.” It sure made working 12-hour days look fun!

My journey began at a young age and led me to Ferris State University to pursue a Hospitality Management degree. The degree has enabled me to grow professionally over a span of 30+ years. From those early days at the hotel in Florida, my dream was to be in business for myself (my original goal was to own my own hotel).
