As entrepreneurs, we have uncovered our “wanna” along with our “Big Why” enabling us to live our desired lifestyle. If you want to be an entrepreneur, you need to determine your “wanna” and then focus on the steps needed to answer the question in the title; where will your “wanna” take you?
If any of you fly Southwest Airlines, you have seen their napkin using this language and sharing the drawing explaining how the business started. As the story goes, the founder drew a triangle on a napkin in 1971 that transformed a dream into an airline and a “wanna” into a “gonna.” This shows how simple a great business idea can be, literally written on a napkin. It reminds me of sessions with one of my prior bosses who could solve many of the biggest challenges with a pen and a napkin.
Applying this to you, once you have the idea…you must act. Some of the best companies today started with a simple thought that was acted upon. We may not all have the dream to start an airline or be the next Apple or Starbucks. However, you have ambitions, dreams, and a lifestyle that you want to achieve. Let me give you examples of “wanna’s”:
- Becoming an independent contractor / consultant in your area of expertise
- Maintaining your current job and starting a side hustle in the evenings and on weekends
- Opening a franchise
- Become a solopreneur starting a small business around your passion (i.e., photography, music lessons, cooking, cycling)
Your “gonna” is simply taking the necessary actions to move you in the direction of achieving your “wanna.” Please take a moment to think about your “wanna” and the steps you must take to turn it into your “gonna.”
What is your “wanna”?

How are you going to act and turn it into your “gonna”?

I did not write it on a napkin, but in 2007 I knew what I wanted to accomplish; being a consultant helping organizations plan and execute successful meetings and events. I took the necessary actions that changed the course of my life for the better. It has enabled me to live in abundance by helping others including my family, team members and my university.
If you know your “wanna” and turn it into your “gonna”, the sky is the limit for what you can accomplish.
