For Now, We Have Time in the Hospitality Industry

From first-hand experience as an entrepreneur, I understand how the hospitality industry is being impacted by COVID-19. This time provides a choice for all of us, and our team is choosing to use this ‘pause’ as the opportunity to do some of the things we have wanted to do for many years. Since we are not traveling, planning or going onsite to operate an event, we do have some time to give back to ourselves and others. On our last team call, we shared some of the things we are doing or planning to do:

  1. Improve the skills needed to enhance your career
  1. Reach out and offer to help others (even a phone call or text can mean a lot)
  1. Improve diet and exercise routine
  1. Read books (not business books)
  1. Play board games and do puzzles with the family
  1. Learn how to or improve use of technology
    • Zoom
    • Skype
    • Slack
    • Google Docs
    • Microsoft Teams
  1. Learn to meditate
  1. Send cards or handwritten notes to family and friends
  1. Binge watch your favorite TV shows (don’t forget the popcorn)
  1. Participate in online health activities: yoga, cycling, etc.
  1. Learn how to play card and board games
  1. Improve cooking skills
  1. Learn a new language
  1. Improve your financial acumen
  1. Plant a garden
  1. Finish the ‘To Do List’ of projects around the house
  1. Become a mixologist
  1. Start a blog or write a book
  1. Learn to play an instrument
